What is a request for an on the record decision?

An on the record decision is a decision that is made based on the evidence in the file without having a hearing. As this decision can be either favorable or unfavorable, we recommend only requesting them when there is clear evidence available to establish disability.

As a Claimant’s representative, part of my job is to obtain evidence of disability. Often I am more successful than anticipated in doing this. In these cases I request a decision “On the Record” (OTR). An OTR decision can be obtained without a hearing and as such can be quicker than waiting for a full hearing.
